The Catholic Institute is a tertiary education provider. Theological education is about: Information, Formation and Transformation

The Catholic Institute of Aotearoa New Zealand (TCI) is in the process of merging with Good Shepherd College (GSC).

The New Zealand Catholic Bishops' Conference (NZCBC) has announced the name of the new organisation: "Te Kupenga - Catholic Leadership Institute". Click here for the media statement announcing the name.

The Bishops have appointed the governing board for Te Kupenga - Catholic Leadership Institute. The members of the board are:

  • Bishop Paul Martin SM, Bishop of Christchurch
  • John Gallaher (Interim Chair), Senior Investment Advisor with Forsyth Bar, Dunedin, previously member of TCI council and the Establishment Board
  • Prof Kate Kearins, Dean of Busines, Economics and Law at AUT Auckland, previously member of the GSC Senate and the Establishment Board
  • Turi Ngatai MNZM, Executive Director Māori for the Open Polytechnic and formerly Deputy CEO at Te Wananga o Aotearoa, living in Tauranga
  • Sandy Pasley, Principal of Baradene College in Auckland and former President of the NZ Secondary Prinicpals Association
  • Rev Dr Timothy Costello SM, Lecturer in Pastoral Theology and Ministry at Good Shepherd College

The Bishops wanted to ensure both continuity and change in the membership of the board, along with a good level of expertise in tertiary education and strong engagement with our biggest diocese. Fr Timothy's appointment is also recognition of the importance of a staff perspective on the governing board.

The NZCBC has announced the appointment of Dr Areti Metuamate as the inaugural Chief Executive of Te Kupenga - Catholic Leadership Institute. Click here for the announcement.

Present students will be able to complete the programme of studies that they have embarked on.

A new website will be created for the combined institute once a logo has been made. At present, our websites will have links to corresponding places on the website of the other institute.
