Entry Requirements for TCI's New Qualifications

New Zealand Certificate in Christian Studies – Christian Ministry
Open-entry to all students over the age of 17, who have left school and display a proven ability to cope with tertiary education.
New Zealand Certificate in Christian Studies – Religious Education
This is open to students enrolled in University Colleges of Education (or equivalent) and practising teachers.  There is a pre-service component for teacher trainees and an in-service component for qualified teachers.
New Zealand Diploma in Christian Studies (strands in Christian Leadership; Pastoral Ministry; Religious Education; Theological Studies)

Intending students must have either the New Zealand Certificate in Christian Studies – Christian Ministry or Religious Education; or a Level 5 Certificate in a similar area of study; or evidence of equivalent work experience and learning at level 5.

 

Entry requirements for TCI's Existing Qualifications

 

Note The only one of these qualifications for which we are taking new enrolments in 2017 is the Certificate in Catechetical Studies.

We are not taking new enrolments for any of the other qualifications listed below.

 

A number of programmes and courses are open entry to all students above the age of 17. Those that have some requirements are:

Certificate in Catechetical Studies
Students must already be enrolled as teacher trainees at Universities’ Colleges of Education (or equivalent).
Certificate in Catholic Youth Ministry
Students must display a proven ability to cope with tertiary education, or at least a motivation to learn at this level. They should show an interest in working with youth.
Certificate in Pastoral Ministry (Hospitals)
Students must display a proven ability to cope with tertiary education, or at least a motivation to learn at this level. They should show an interest in working in this area of Pastoral Ministry.
Certificate in Pastoral Ministry (Prisons)
Students must be at least 18 years of age and they must display a proven ability to cope with tertiary education, or at least a motivation to learn at this level. They should show an
interest in working in this area of Pastoral Ministry.
Understanding Sexuality
Students must be practising teachers in Catholic Schools.  This is not an NZQA registered programme.
Master of Educational Leadership
Students must meet the entry requirements of the Australian Catholic University who teach and award this degree.  This is an overseas degree and individual students need to apply to NZQA for equivalency on completion.  An undergraduate degree is required. 
Certificate in Leadership in a Catholic School
This course is not NZQA registered and is only available in Auckland.
